(CBS News) KABUL – By the end of 2014, the international military forces who have tried to secure Afghanistan for more than a decade will leave the country, and as they go, so too will many of the business opportunities granted by their presence. “The current economy is artificial,” Muqim Jamshady tells CBS News in his suburban Kabul home. Jamshady started his own company, Afghan Logistics, shortly after the Taliban regime was ousted almost 11 years ago. (CBS/AP) AMMAN, Jordan – Syria’s defected prime minister said Tuesday that Bashar Assad’s regime was near collapse and urged other political and military leaders to tip the scales and join the rebel side. “The regime is on the verge of collapse morally and economically,” Riad Hijab told a news conference in his first public comments since leaving his post and fleeing to Jordan with his family last week. Hijab is the highest-ranking political figure to defect from Assad’s regime. Aide: Hijab planned defection for months According to the Reuters news agency, Hijab asserted that Assad’s regime “no longer controls more than 30 percent of Syrian territory.” He said he felt “pain in his soul” over the regime’s shelling and other attacks on rebel strongholds as the government stepped up its military offensive. (CBS News) KABUL – Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey spoke Monday with U.S. and Afghan officials in Kabul amid a spike in “insider attacks” which has seen Afghan forces claim the lives of 10 U.S. troops during the last two weeks alone. Dempsey first met Gen. John Allen, commander of both the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and U.S. forces in the country, to discuss the progress of the military campaign, which is to begin winding down after more than 11 years. “Our session today was an excellent dialogue about how to maintain momentum against the insurgents and ISAF’s continuing support to building Afghan capacity,” Gen.
