(CBS News) KABUL – By the end of 2014, the international military forces who have tried to secure Afghanistan for more than a decade will leave the country, and as they go, so too will many of the business opportunities granted by their presence. “The current economy is artificial,” Muqim Jamshady tells CBS News in his suburban Kabul home. Jamshady started his own company, Afghan Logistics, shortly after the Taliban regime was ousted almost 11 years ago. The current economy “has no foundation,” he says. “Much depends on the coalition forces. If they leave, the economy will collapse dramatically.” Hundreds of Afghan forces sacked, detained over insider attack fearsCan Afghan forces vet their recruits?U.S. halts training of some Afghan forces Much of Jamshady’s business depends on an international presence in Kabul. He runs a hugely successful logistics, rental car and 해적바둑이게임 taxi firm – services which are mostly aimed at the massive population of foreigners in the Afghan capital. He built his business from almost nothing, starting as an owner-driver and then spending his savings on a second vehicle, which his brother drove. Soon, there was a third brother driving a third car. Today he has more than 100 vehicles, a large complex of offices and his own maintenance facility. His wealth is apparent, but Jamshady is reluctant to disclose his real net-worth. Success here comes with great risk....

(AP) HAMILTON, Bermuda – Tropical Storm Leslie swirled northward in the Atlantic late Saturday toward Bermuda, and forecasters said it might strengthen into a hurricane again while passing to the east of this wealthy British territory. Forecasts pointed to the storm following a track about 200 miles east-southeast of the British territory Sunday afternoon or evening, the Bermuda Weather Service said. “Bermuda seems to have escaped the worst of Tropical Storm Leslie,” said Wayne Perinchief, the national security minister. “However, we should by no means let our guard down as we are still expecting strong winds and rain as well as dangerous ocean conditions overnight and well into Sunday. ” The government said that unless the storm’s course changed, the airport would remain open, although major airlines already canceled flights. Officials also called off plans to open an emergency shelter but said the facility would remain in a state of readiness in case it was needed. Bermuda, a financial haven and tourist destination, has strong building codes and is accustomed to storms, and many people on the island were not worried by Leslie. “I have taken precautions,” said Gareth Kerr, 29. “The windows have the shutters across and I got supplies such as water and tinned food. If the weather is bad tomorrow I’ll just sit indoors.” Still, there was the chance of some flooding, said James Dodgson, a...

(CBS/AP) With millions of e-reader devices being sold while the Borders chain is going out of business, books arriving this fall face a radically different market from just a year ago. But despite the popularity of e-books, the season’s biggest selling title may be available only the old-fashioned way. “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever,” the seventh of Jeff Kinney’s series about the trials of schoolboy Greg Heffley, arrives in November with an announced first printing of over 6 million copies and, so far, there are no plans for an e-book. The print run is greater than the combined totals for two other likely blockbusters: Rick Riordan’s “Heroes of Olympus” (3 million copies) and Christopher Paolini’s “Inheritance” (2.5 million), the fourth and final book of his “Inheritance” fantasy cycle. The “Wimpy Kid” series has more than 45 million copies in print and the new book has already reached the top 20 on Amazon.com. Independent sellers say customers have been pre-ordering “Cabin Fever” for 온라인카지노 months. “They’re like the ‘Harry Potter’ books in that they appeal to kids who don’t necessarily love reading,” says Peter Glassman, owner of Books of Wonder in New York. “And when you do that, you reach a tremendous audience.” The e-revolution so far has been more for the old than for the young. Officials at “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling’s American publisher, Scholastic...
