CHICAGO – Grammy-winning Blues musician David “Honeyboy” Edwards, believed to be the oldest surviving Delta bluesman and whose roots stretched back to blues legend Robert Johnson, died early Monday in his Chicago home, his manager said. He was 96. Edwards had a weak heart and his health seriously declined in May, when the guitarist had to cancel concerts scheduled through November, said his longtime manager, Michael Frank of Earwig Music Company. Born in 1915 in Shaw, Mississippi, Edwards learned the guitar growing up and started playing professionally at age 17 in Memphis. He came to Chicago in the 1940s and played on Maxwell Street, small clubs and street corners. By the 1950s Edwards had played with almost every bluesman of note including Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, Charlie Patton and 안전놀이터 Muddy Waters. Among Edwards’ hit songs were “Long Tall Woman Blues,” “Gamblin Man” and “Just Like Jesse James.” Edwards played his last shows in April at the Juke Joint Festival in Mississippi, Frank said. “Blues ain’t never going anywhere,” Edwards told The Associated Press in 2008. “It can get slow, but it ain’t going nowhere. You play a lowdown dirty shame slow and lonesome, my mama dead, my papa across the sea I ain’t dead but I’m just supposed to be blues. You can take that same blues, make it uptempo, a shuffle blues, that’s what rock `n’...

RIO DE JANEIRO — A massive fire tore through a 200-year-old museum in Rio de Janeiro late Sunday, lighting up the night and sending large plumes of smoke into the air. Firefighters worked to put out the blaze at the esteemed National Museum in northern Rio, which houses artifacts from Egypt, Greco-Roman art and some of the first fossils found in Brazil. In a statement, the museum said the blaze began around 7:30 p.m. There were no reported injuries and the fire began after it had closed to the public. It wasn’t immediately clear how the fire began. In a statement, President Michel Temer said it was “a sad day for all Brazilians.” “Two hundred years of work, investigation and knowledge have been lost,” said Temer. “The value of our history cannot be measured by the damage to the building.” BBC News reports that the museum, which once served as the residence for the Portuguese royal family, celebrated its 200-year anniversary earlier this year. BBC says the museum contains more than 20 million items in its collection. According to the museum’s website, it has more than 20,000 items related to the history of Brazil and other countries, and that many of its collections came from members of Brazil’s royal family. Roberto Robadey, a spokesman for the fire department, said 80 firefighters were working to put out the blaze and that...

It’s convenient and a staple in most kitchens, but a lot of canned food still contains a chemical linked to birth defects and cancer, 카지노사이트 CBS San Francisco reports. Bisphenol A, or BPA, has been removed from baby products, reusable water bottles and most toys. But the chemical is still being used in a lot of food packaging. The Center for Environmental Health recently tested more than 250 cans purchased at supermarkets and dollar stores for BPA. Researchers found nearly 40 percent contained the chemical. That’s down from 67 percent two years ago, but the number still concerns some experts. “It’s still much too high,” Charles Margulis of the Center for Environmental Health told CBS News. “We need to get it down to zero.” BPA is used in the linings of cans, but some studies show that low levels of the chemical can seep into the food. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says BPA is safe at the current levels occurring in food. But the state of California recently added BPA to its Proposition 65 list as a chemical known to cause reproductive toxicity. Margulis says there are a variety of potential health concerns. “BPA is known to cause birth defects, and it’s also linked to breast cancer, obesity and many other serious health problems,” he said. Margulis also pointed out that low-income Americans may be most at...
