Paul Rudd plays Ned, a friendly, go-along-to-get-along screw-up of a brother to three high-strung sisters played by three appealing actresses: Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel

Here on the East Coast, most of us have little choice but to stay inside – and https://www.uzplxb5ac.online wait out the wrath of Irene. But elsewhere, you can go to the movies. David Edelstein has some recommendations … It has been a loud, 3-D summer at the multiplex, and while I’m perfectly receptive to the odd $150 million superhero picture, it wasn’t so odd this summer, it was the norm – and I’m ready for movies that aren’t in-your-face with a surcharge for the glasses. The comedy “Our Idiot Brother” won’t win any prizes, but its mellow vibe is a blessed relief. Paul Rudd plays Ned, a friendly, go-along-to-get-along screw-up of a brother to three high-strung sisters played by three appealing actresses: Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel. Ned goes to prison after a cop in uniform approaches him to buy dope. Really! See for yourself: … No, stop the clip. It’s too painful. Anyway, when Ned gets out of jail he visits his sisters and messes up their lives by being too guilessly honest. He undermines their very foundations. This being a comedy, family ties strengthen rather than strangle. The uplift would be hard to buy if Rudd weren’t so lovable. I have no idea what he’s like in life, but I’d be stricken to hear he’s a jerk: It would be such an affront to the...

Washington has been quibbling for years over the need for more scientific research to show that the herbicide caused health problems among Vietnamese

(AP) HANOI, Vietnam — Alleged victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam are set to receive a controversial “detoxification” treatment developed by the Church of Scientology. Scientologists use the “Hubbard Method” — which involves saunas and vitamins — to try to cure drug addiction and alcoholism. The church set up a center in New York after the 9/11 attacks offering a similar service for first responders who may have been exposed to toxins. Many researchers have criticized the method as pseudoscientific and useless. A hospital official and state-controlled media said 24 people were at a Hanoi hospital on Thursday waiting for the program. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. The U.S. military dumped some 20 million gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides on about a quarter of former South Vietnam between 1962 and 1971, decimating about 5 million acres of forest — roughly the size of Massachusetts. Dioxins in it have since been linked to birth defects, though the United States maintains there is no evidence of any link between Agent Orange and health problems among Vietnamese. “I hope my wife and I will fully recover completely and will not suffer after-effects to pass on to my descendants,” prospective patient Nguyen Xuan Anh was quoted as saying in the Viet Nam News daily. U.S. Embassy spokesperson Christopher Hodges...

Those involved in the hijackings may have gotten that experience in Nigeria’s southern Niger Delta, where thieves tap pipelines running through the swamps to steal hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a day

(AP) LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s navy on Wednesday retook an oil tanker hijacked off the country’s largest city, freeing 23 Indian sailors held hostage by pirates who fled as the navy arrived, a spokesman said. None of the sailors was hurt in the hijacking of the MT Abu Dhabi Star, which happened off the coast of Lagos, said Pat Adamson, a spokesman for Dubai-based Pioneer Ship Management Services LLC. The Nigerian navy was providing an escort for the vessel Wednesday afternoon to make sure it arrived safely at Lagos’ busy port, Commodore Kabir Aliyu said. The pirates who took over the vessel fled when they saw the Nigerian naval ship on the horizon, Adamson said. It was unclear whether they stole any of the ship’s cargo, though the crew had begun an inspection of the ship, the spokesman said. The pirates targeted the ship as it was anchored off the coast Tuesday night, 먹튀 없는 토토 Aliyu said. The sailors onboard sent distress signals as the pirates boarded the Singapore-flagged ship, with their last message indicating they had locked themselves inside a panic room on the vessel, Aliyu said. During the short hijacking, the ship’s management received no ransom demands for the crew, Pioneer Ship Management Services said. That’s not unusual, as pirates in the region increasingly target oil tankers for their cargos, holding control of the vessels only...
