LONDON – Amy Winehouse’s mother said the singer was not well when they met a day before she died, a British newspaper reported Sunday, while her family mourned the loss of “a wonderful daughter, sister, niece.” The Sunday Mirror quoted Janis Winehouse as saying she believed it was “only a matter of time” before her daughter died. The 27-year-old singer was found dead at her London home on Saturday. “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me,” Janis told the tabloid. Ambulance crews called to her home in north London’s Camden area Saturday afternoon found the singer dead before they arrived. Police said the cause of her death is being treated as “unexplained,” rejecting speculation that she died from a drug overdose as “inappropriate.” A post-mortem is expected Monday or Tuesday. (CBS) Jon Favreau’s sci-fi Western “Cowboys & Aliens,” based on a popular graphic novel and starring A-list actors Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, makes its debut at the box office this weekend. The action movie’s debut, one of the highlights in the coming week in entertainment, follows two high-profile releases – the last “Harry Potter” film, which broke all kinds of records, and “Captain America,” which had the biggest midnight box office gross so far this year. So the bar for “Cowboys & Aliens” is set pretty high. DMX is counting on a little rap to help him beat the rap at his tax evasion sentencing. Attorney Murray Richman said in a court document made public on Monday that he wants to play a few DMX compositions at Thursday’s sentencing in Manhattan for the rapper also known as Earl Simmons. The lawyer said the music will help U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff “understand him genuinely in his voice” since DMX may be too emotional to speak. (CBS News) WASHINGTON – Amid warnings that the Syrian military appears to be “lining up” for a “massacre” in Aleppo – the war-torn nation’s most populous city – the U.S. government says President Bashar Assad’s isolated regime is literally running out of cash to keep up the fight. Officials at the U.S. Treasury and State Departments tell CBS News that Syria is having problems finding a source to print its currency. That could make it harder for the regime to continue functioning as Assad’s government burns through the state’s central bank reserves.
