(AP) AZAZ, Syria – Syrian fighter jets screamed through the sky Wednesday over this rebel-held town, dropping bombs that leveled the better part of a poor neighborhood and wounded scores of people, many of them women and children buried under piles of rubble. Activists said more than 20 people were killed. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 23 people died in the double airstrike and more than 200 were wounded. Mohammed Nour, a local activist reached by phone, put the death toll at 25. Neither figure could be independently confirmed. (CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES – The Academy Awards has producers for next year’s awards show, and one of them is the guy who brought you three bad Jackie Chan-Chris Tucker movies. That’s right. Director Brett Ratner is one of the producers. Don Mischer is the other. This will be Ratner’s first involvement with the Oscar show and Mischer’s second: He produced and directed the 2011 Academy Awards telecast and was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the show. Mischer said in an interview that he’s excited to oversee the Oscars again. “I was just so happy to receive the call from the academy saying we’d like to have you come back,” he said. “It was unexpected and a real delight. Jeff Glor hears from Kevin Wilson about “Family Fang,” his inventive novel about a quirky couple obsessed with performance art. For them, everything in life is secondary to art, including their children. Jeff Glor: What inspired you to write the book? Kevin Wilson: I knew I wanted to write about family, what it means to be born into something and how you eventually leave it behind to become your own person. Curious Israelis and foreign tourists toting binoculars have been drawn to the area to try to get a glimpse of the fighting, even as others sit in a cafe overlooking the Syrian frontier area, sipping from tiny cups of espresso and frosty glasses of beer. The thud of exploding mortar shells and smoke billowing from Syrian territory below have drawn Israelis to lookouts along the suddenly tense frontier, including this spot on Mount Bental — a former Syrian army post that Israel seized when it captured the strategic plateau from Syria in 1967.
