(AP) BEIRUT – Armed Shiite clansmen in Lebanon said Wednesday they had captured more than 20 Syrians and will hold them until one of their relatives seized by rebels inside Syria is freed. The tensions were a stark reminder of how easily Syria’s civil war could spill over to neighboring states. In Geneva, a U.N. investigation said Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces and pro-government militiamen were responsible for war crimes during a May bloodbath in the village of Houla that killed more than 100 civilians, nearly half of them children. It also said rebels were blamed for war crimes in at least three other killings. The report by the U.N. Human Rights Council said the scale of the Houla carnage indicated “involvement at the highest levels” of Syria’s military and government. It is first time the U.N. has described events in Syria’s civil war as war crimes and could be used in possible future prosecution against Assad or others. The council also said the conflict is moving in increasingly “brutal” directions on both sides. Updated 11:36 PM ET (AP) VERACRUZ, Mexico – Tropical Storm Ernesto made landfall Thursday near the oil port city of Coatzacoalcos, killing two people as it moved inland and began weakening after drenching Mexico’s flood-prone southern Gulf region. Ernesto came ashore after spinning across the far southern Gulf of Mexico in waters dotted with oil rigs operated by the state oil company. The government closed its largest Gulf coast port, Veracruz, and the smaller ports of Alvarado and Coatzacoalcos. In neighboring Tabasco state, two fishermen drowned when the stormed passed through the area, Gov. Andres Granier told reporters. Granier said the storm’s strong winds ripped rooftops from several homes but residents refused to evacuate, fearing their possessions might be stolen. “People have chosen to stay in their homes and we are helping them,” he said. Coatzacoalcos, a major oil port, got seven inches (177 millimeters) of rain in the 24 hours before Ernesto’s center passed just a few miles (kilometers) away, according to Mexico’s weather service. Updated at 12:02 p.m. EDT (CBS/AP) Not even Mr. Bean could have stayed silent after a crash like this. “Mr. Bean” actor Rowan Atkinson, whose character is known for hapless driving in the television shows and 사다리 배팅 films, left a hospital Friday after being treated for minor injuries following a sports car crash in southern England. The 56-year-old comedian was driving his McLaren F1 supercar — one of the world’s fastest road cars — when he crashed late Thursday, striking a tree and a lamppost before the vehicle caught fire, authorities said. Firefighters said Atkinson hadn’t been trapped inside the car. Britain’s Daily Mirror tabloid reported that the actor was able to walk away from the vehicle and flag down other motorists for help. Atkinson was seen leaving Peterborough City Hospital with four security guards Friday afternoon, but made no comment to reporters. Publicists did not disclose details of his injuries. The accident occurred close to Haddon, a village about 85 miles north of London. Atkinson was given a routine breathalyzer test at the scene and will face no criminal charges, police said. His McLaren F1 car has a top speed of 230 mph, though police did not suggest Atkinson had been speeding. The exclusive cars can cost around $1 million.
