The wall is soundproof

(CBS/AP) For those of us who can’t get enough of living vicariously, there’s “Big Brother.” The CBS show began its 13th season Thursday night as eight new contestants and three veterans converged in the house. Pictures: Big Brother 12 Yet the audience didn’t get to eavesdrop on everything that happened during the first night of the summer-long competition. The edited hour-long premiere condensed what actually happened over the course of about six hours last Saturday when the 14 houseguests moved into the camera-filled house on a soundstage on the CBS Studio City lot. (The show’s live Internet feeds don’t broadcast what happens inside the house until after the show debuts.) Here’s some of what you didn’t see on TV: — Outside the door to the house, cocktail waitress Rachel Reilly and graduate student Brendon Villegas, who met last summer during season 12 and later became engaged, shared a quiet moment together as they waited to enter the not-so-private abode. “Don’t be nervous,” Brendon told her as they stood outside the door. “I’m not nervous,” Rachel retorted. — Among the declarations sputtered by outspoken season-eight winner Richard “Evel Dick” Donato after he returned to the house with his estranged daughter Danielle Donato was that he was proud of CBS for casting three black contestants. He also told the other houseguests that the producers only called him on the previous Sunday...

He told me how important it was to have chemistry off-screen as he sat me down and unzipped his leather pants

LOS ANGELES — A woman on Monday said she was a 17-year-old model and aspiring actress when Steven Seagal sexually assaulted her at a supposed casting session at a Beverly Hills hotel room in 2002. She is one of a growing number of women to accuse the action star of sexual misconduct during an audition; Portia de Rossi and Jenny McCarthy have told similar stories.  Faviola Dadis was emotional but composed as she spoke at a news conference in Los Angeles. She said Seagal reached under her bikini top, grabbed her nipples and then grabbed her genitals soon after the audition began. She said she promptly ended the audition and left deeply shaken. “I have suffered from depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress, have found it difficult to form trusting relationships with men,” Dadis said through tears as she read from a written statement. She recently filed a report with police, and Los Angeles prosecutors said Monday that her case is under review. More in Sexual misconduct Dadis spoke at the news conference alongside her attorney, Lisa Bloom, and another woman, Regina Simons, who said Seagal sexually assaulted her in 1995 when she was 18, allegations she previously made on NBC’s “Megyn Kelly Today” in January. Seagal’s attorney Anthony Falangetti said the actor adamantly denies the allegations. “These claims by the two women who spoke today are completely fictitious and...

President Barack Obama congratulated Libyans on the vote, calling it “another milestone on their extraordinary transition to democracy.” U.N

(AP) TRIPOLI, Libya – Libya’s first nationwide elections in nearly five decades brought hints Sunday of an Arab Spring precedent: Western-leaning parties making strides over Islamist rivals hoping to follow the same paths to power as in neighbors Egypt and Tunisia. While final results from Saturday’s parliamentary election could still be days away under a two-tier selection system, unofficial and partial counts from Libya’s biggest cities suggested liberal factions were leading the Muslim Brotherhood and allies in a possible first major setback to their political surge following last year’s uprisings. If the Libyan trend holds — which is still far from certain — it would challenge the narrative of rising Islamist power since the fall of Western-allied regimes from Tunis to Cairo. It also could display the different political dynamics in Libya, where tribal loyalties run deep and groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood at times cooperated with the rule of Muammar Qaddafi. “Anyone with past ties with old regime is hated, even despised,” said Fathi al-Fadhali, a pro-Islamist Libyan political analyst who lived in exile for 30 years. “Any political names associated with the regime are immediately politically burnt by that association.” Ultimately, the 200-seat parliament will face the task of forming a government — which could become tests of strength for Islamists and secular forces over questions such as women’s rights, the extent of traditional Islamic law...

In western Libya, where Jibril’s tribe, the Warfalla, is prominent, his party also was on the top in the early counting, the political officials said
