(CBS/AP) For those of us who can’t get enough of living vicariously, there’s “Big Brother.” The CBS show began its 13th season Thursday night as eight new contestants and three veterans converged in the house. The edited hour-long premiere condensed what actually happened over the course of about six hours last Saturday when the 14 houseguests moved into the camera-filled house on a soundstage on the CBS Studio City lot. MOSCOW — The Telegram encrypted messenger app said Tuesday said it would cooperate with investigators in terror probes when ordered by courts, except in Russia where it is locked in an ongoing battle with authorities. The company founded by Russian Pavel Durov has refused to provide authorities in the country with a way to read its communications and was banned by a Moscow court in April as a result. But in its updated privacy settings, Telegram said it would disclose its users’ data to “the relevant authorities” elsewhere if it receives a court order to do so, although not in Russia. “If Telegram receives a court order that confirms you’re a terror suspect, we may disclose your IP address and phone number to the relevant authorities,” Telegram’s new privacy settings said. “So far, this has never happened. When it does, we will include it in a semiannual transparency report,” the app added. Durov said the new privacy terms were adopted to “comply with new European laws on protecting private data.” But Durov assured his Russian users that Telegram would continue to withhold their data from security services. “In Russia, Telegram is asked to disclose not the phone numbers or IP addresses of terrorists based on a court decision, but access to the messages of all users,” he wrote on his Telegram channel. (AP) TRIPOLI, Libya – Libya’s first nationwide elections in nearly five decades brought hints Sunday of an Arab Spring precedent: Western-leaning parties making strides over Islamist rivals hoping to follow the same paths to power as in neighbors Egypt and Tunisia. While final results from Saturday’s parliamentary election could still be days away under a two-tier selection system, unofficial and partial counts from Libya’s biggest cities suggested liberal factions were leading the Muslim Brotherhood and allies in a possible first major setback to their political surge following last year’s uprisings. If the Libyan trend holds — which is still far from certain — it would challenge the narrative of rising Islamist power since the fall of Western-allied regimes from Tunis to Cairo. (CBS) The final 14 dancers showed their stuff to choreography by a new (new to SYTYCD, that is) group of artists on Wednesday night’s episode of the Fox summer hit “So You Think You Can Dance.” Pictures: “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 8 But all eyes may have been on the judges panel which included, of all people, Carmen Electra in a sheer, low-cut ensemble. I could see Debbie Reynolds last week; at least she was a tap dancer in her day. But Carmen Electra? What can she tell contestants about their dancing? It turns out, not much, despite the long list of dance credentials she spouted at the start of the show. Her comments were filled with mindless generalities and sometimes she just repeated the comments of the other judges. Those other judges included former contestant and now acclaimed choreographer Travis Wall, whose comments were pointed and who almost always had helpful tips for the dancers. (And he also was wearing a very dapper purple velvet jacket.) Mary Murphy and show creator and producer Nigel Lythgoe completed the panel.
