Privilege doesn’t necessarily offer protection from drug addiction, 과천출장샵 new research suggests. Teens at elite U.S. high schools seem to face a higher risk of addiction as young adults, the study found. “We found alarmingly high rates of substance abuse among young adults who we initially studied as teenagers,” said study author Suniya Luthar, a professor of psychology at Arizona State University. “Results showed that among both men and women and across annual assessments, these young adults had substantial elevations, relative to national norms, in frequency of several indicators — drinking to intoxication and of using marijuana, stimulants such as Adderall, cocaine, and club drugs such as ecstasy,” she said in a university news release. The study included more than 500 students from affluent communities in the Northeast. They were assessed when they were high school seniors, then each year for four college years, and from ages 23 to 27. “We found rates of addiction to drugs or alcohol among 19 to 24 percent of women in the older cohort by the age of 26, and 23 to 40 percent among men. These rates were three and two times as high respectively, as compared to national norms,” Luthar said. In the younger group, rates of addiction for women were between 11 and 16 percent by 22 years old. That’s close to national norms, according to the researchers. But for...

DALVAY-BY-THE-SEA, Prince Edward Island — Prince William enjoyed showing off his military helicopter training with his first-ever water landing Monday to the delight of anxious crowds in Canada, where he and his wife, Kate, have been on their first official overseas trip since their wedding. The Duke of Cambridge climbed into the cockpit of a Sea King helicopter for the military training exercise at Dalvay by-the-Sea, a scenic resort along Prince Edward Island’s north shore. Prince William, a Royal Air Force rescue helicopter pilot, requested the simulated emergency landing procedure. Dressed in an olive flight suit and helmet, the prince settled the large helicopter on the water several times. From the water, William piloted several take-offs and hovered in the air before executing dual- and single-engine landings before taxiing around as Kate watched from the ground. “He was looking for his wife on the shoreline at one point,” said Col. Sam Michaud, 42, who trained William. “She was waving back about 100 feet away.” Pictures: William and Kate on Prince Edward IslandWilliam, Kate baby rumors starting already Michaud said William is now fully trained. He said William remarked that the “boys back at his squadron would be absolutely jealous.” Canada is the only country that trains its Sea King helicopter pilots to do a controlled landing on water if there’s an emergency. The exercise William performed Monday is known...

MONACO – A day after the civil wedding that transformed one-time Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock into the Princess of Monaco, the South African and her prince, Albert II, were to say their vows in a star-studded religious ceremony in the tiny principality Saturday. But it was all happening against a backdrop of a story that wouldn’t go away and keeps getting denied – that Wittstock wanted to scrap the wedding. Monaco wedding in photos Guests expected at the Catholic service and gala dinner to follow Saturday included assorted European royals, heads of state, top models and world class athletes. Household names expected to converge on the princely palace — an Italian Renaissance castle where Monaco’s ruling Grimaldi dynasty has resided for centuries — included French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, U.S. soprano Renee Fleming, former “007” Sir Roger Moore and Giorgio Armani, the Italian designer who made Charlene’s wedding gown. Celebrated French-born chef Alain Ducasse was preparing a multi-course dinner for 450 guests. He has said freshly caught fish and vegetables grown on Albert’s farm will be on the menu. The couple was married in what CBS News correspondent Charlie D’Agata called an “intimate, if a little stiff and sterile” civil service Friday inside the prince’s palace. Albert’s sisters, Princesses Caroline and Stephanie, were among several dozen guests at Friday’s ceremony, which was held in the palace’s...

Last Updated 11:24 a.m. ET In a ringing endorsement of free speech and 인제출장마사지 new technology, the U.S. Supreme Court this morning struck down a California law that restricts the sale or rental of violent video games to minors. “Even where the protection of children is the object, the constitutional limits on governmental action apply,” Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the majority opinion. The ruling was 7-2. Opinion: Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association (08-1448) (pdf) The Supreme Court’s ruling unambiguously reaffirms that video games, which have become increasingly complex and in some cases more expensive to produce than movies, also qualify for full First Amendment protection. Scalia noted that books often viewed as suitable for high school students are full of violent material. “Certainly the books we give children to read–or read to them when they are younger–contain no shortage of gore: Grimm’s Fairy Tales, for example, are grim indeed. As her just deserts for trying to poison Snow White, the wicked queen is made to dance in red hot slippers ’till she fell dead on the floor, a sad example of envy and jealousy.'” California is one of a string of states that enacted similar laws restricting minors’ rights to buy violent video games – legislation that has been repeatedly rejected by lower courts. Laws in Illinois and Michigan were blocked by federal judges on First Amendment grounds...
