Tormé puts his spin on the big-band jazz of Alan Jay Lerner’s “Come Back to Me” and the Cole Porter penned title track. He also takes on the pop standards “Autumn Leaves” and “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?” He gets even more soulful by taking on the smooth sounds of Al Green’s classic “Let’s Stay Together” while also creating his own signature songs. And of course, he brings it home to one of his father’s biggest hits, “Comin’ Home Baby.” Growing up with Mel Tormé for a dad was quite an exciting ride. Tormé was exposed to some of the greatest music in American history because of this father. He had the honor of being around some of the biggest legends in jazz – from Bing Crosby, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr., Buddy Rich to Ella Fitzgerald. “My dad was a hero to me, and his lifelong love affair with music inspired my own,” Tormé says his official bio. “He was impressing musical tastes and ideas on me from very early on (in my life) and I am endlessly grateful for that.”

Ilter Turan, a professor of political science at Istanbul’s Bilgi University, told NTV that Syria’s action was clearly “hostile,” even if it violated its air space

Updated 7:28 PM ET (CBS/AP) ANKARA, Turkey – Syria said Friday it shot down a Turkish military plane that entered Syrian air space, and 의령콜걸 Turkey vowed to “determinedly take necessary steps” in response. It was the most clear and dramatic escalation in tensions between the two countries, which used to be allies before the Syrian revolt began in March 2011. Turkey has become one of the strongest critics of the Syrian regime’s brutal response to the country’s uprising. Earlier, CBS News correspondent David Martin reported U.S. officials confirmed that Syrian air defenses shot down a Turkish jet off the coast of Syria. The circumstances of the incident remain unclear. The jet — a Vietnam-era F-4 — was supposed to be on a routine training mission over the eastern Mediterranean. Late Friday, Syria’s state-run news agency, SANA, said the military spotted an “unidentified aerial target” that was flying at a low altitude and at a high speed. “The Syrian anti-air defenses counteracted with anti-aircraft artillery, hitting it directly,” SANA said. “The target turned out to be a Turkish military plane that entered Syrian airspace and was dealt with according to laws observed in such cases.” Turkey issued a statement Friday night following a two-hour security meeting led by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, saying Syrian forces downed the plane and that the two Turkish pilots remain missing. Vatican blames media for latest scandal – againPope to Irish: Child abuse by clergy shook faith The resignation was one of several personnel changes announced Tuesday by the Vatican before the pope leaves next week for Castel Gandolfo, the papal summer residence in the hills south of Rome. The Vatican frequently announces a rash of personnel moves before the pope leaves town and the Vatican slows down for the summer. Benedict named a new chief librarian, a regent for a Vatican court, and a new prefect for the office that deals with family issues. He also named a former close collaborator in his old doctrine office, Monsignor Joseph Di Noia, to be the No. 2 negotiator with the schismatic traditionalist group, the Society of St. Pius X. Italian media had speculated Benedict might soon let Cardinal William Levada, his successor at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, retire. At 76, the American Levada is a year beyond retirement age but popes frequently ask their trusted advisers to stay on. Also left in place was Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Benedict’s longtime deputy and the 77-year-old Vatican secretary of state. Bertone has been a target of the scandal over leaked Vatican documents, many of which have sought to undermine his authority. Benedict has recently stressed his faith in his collaborators, and the Vatican spokesman has cautioned against media speculation over a possible Bertone resignation.
