Moscow tries to break Iran nuke talks deadlock

(AP) MOSCOW – Russia launched a desperate bid Tuesday to save nuclear talks between six world powers and Iran from collapse and lessen the chances of a Middle East conflict that could draw in the United States. Failure to reach an agreement that limits Iran’s nuclear activities would increase the chances that Israel — already skeptical of diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon — could launch an attack, a scenario that potentially could pull in the U.S. and spread chaos throughout the Middle East. Diplomats said the negotiations remained deadlocked as they went into a second and possibly final day, despite pleas from the presidents of the U.S. and Russia for Iran to agree to curb nuclear activities. Iran says sanctions crippling its oil industry must be lifted before it does anything. A top Russian official reportedly met twice with Iran’s chief envoy on the sidelines of the talks Tuesday, as the host nation tried to keep negotiations on track. Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, conferred with top Iranian negotiator 홀덤보드카페 Saeed Jalili, said one of the diplomats. The diplomat, like others who spoke to reporters, demanded anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly on the closed talks. President Barack Obama could suffer at home if talks fail, even if Israel holds back from attack, because a derailed diplomatic track would give...

The report was published May 31 in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology

Millions of Americans have had to swear off shellfish, eggs, peanuts or soy to avoid allergic reactions that can range from stomach cramps to life-threatening swelling of the airways, new research shows. Approximately 4 percent of Americans have a food allergy, with women and Asians the most affected, the study found. “Recent reports suggest that food allergies are on the rise, with more food allergy-related hospitalizations in the U.S. over the last decade,” said lead researcher Dr. Li Zhou. She’s with the division of general medicine and primary care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Food allergies cost the United States an estimated $25 billion annually, Zhou said. For the study, Zhou and her colleagues reviewed nearly 3 million medical records identifying more than 97,000 patients who suffered from one or more food allergies or an intolerance to a food. The most common allergy was to shellfish, such as shrimp and lobster, Zhou said. “In addition, 1 in 6 patients with a food allergy or intolerance had a documented anaphylaxis [life-threatening swelling of the airways],” she noted. Other common food allergies included fruits or vegetables, dairy and peanuts, the researchers found. Food allergies can lead to reactions such as hives, anaphylaxis, shortness of breath, wheezing, itching, swelling or allergic-like reactions called intolerances, Zhou said. Her team found that nearly 13,000 patients were allergic or had an intolerance to...

observers in Syria are charged with checking compliance with a cease-fire that was supposed to go into effect on April 12 but has not taken hold

(CBS/AP) NICOSIA, Cyprus – The international community should deploy a peacekeeping force, instead of the U.N.’s existing, beleaguered observer mission, to help end the killing in Syria, the secretary general of the Arab League said Monday. The appeal could have a rough time getting past Syria’s stalwart U.N. allies Russia and China. Nabil Elaraby’s comments came as activists said Syrian forces had renewed shelling the city of Homs, the latest move in Syrian President Bashar Assad’s crackdown on an increasingly armed popular uprising. The opposition says more than 14,000 people have died since the uprising began in March 2011, including more than 3,400 security forces. U.N. observers in Syria are charged with checking compliance with a cease-fire that was supposed to go into effect on April 12 but has not taken hold. On Sunday, mission head Maj. Gen. Robert Mood demanded that the warring parties allow the evacuation of women, children, the elderly and those who are sick. The U.N.‘s observers’ “attempts to extract civilians from the line of fire over the past week have been unsuccessful,” Mood said in a statement. “This requires willingness on both sides to respect and protect the human life of the Syrian people.” More in After the Arab Spring On Saturday, the U.N. said its 300 observers based in Syria were suspending all missions because of concerns for 강원 랜드 슬롯 머신 잭팟...

The radical left Syriza party in second place, with 71 seats, has refused to join any government that will implement the terms of Greece’s international bailout, under which the country has received billions of euros in rescue loans in return for deeply unpopular spending cuts and tax hikes

Updated 2:37 PM ET (AP) ATHENS, Greece – A coalition government could be formed by mid-Wednesday in Greece, the head of the country’s socialist party said Tuesday, easing the nation out of a political limbo as it struggles to deal with a financial crisis that is already affecting Europe’s economy and markets around the world. Evangelos Venizelos’ socialist PASOK party came third in Sunday’s elections. At the core of any administration will be Antonis Samaras’ conservative New Democracy party, which came first in Sunday’s vote and won 129 of Parliament’s 300 seats — short of the 151 needed to govern alone.
