The “Shameless” star appeared on the show Tuesday with a small nude Band-Aid on the bridge of his nose. When Ripa asked the 61-year-old actor about the bandage, he opened up about his surgery, according to the San Francisco Gate.

“I have many, many stories but the truth is I have a basal-cell (carcinoma) and I couldn’t make any of the others work,” Macy told Ripa on the show. “I did bar fight, I did damsel in distress and what I’ve come up with so far is, ‘If you think I look bad, you should see the surgeon.'”

He continued saying, “I’m Scots/Irish heritage and (that’s what I get for) spending a misspent youth in Georgia with no sunscreen.”

Macy was on the show to promote the second season of his show “Shameless,” in which he plays the head of single-parent family struggling in Chicago. The show’s new season is set to premiere Jan. 8 on Showtime at 9 p.m. EST.
