But writer J.K. Rowling and the maker of the Harry Potter films are suing a small publisher in Michigan over its plans to release a book version of the popular Lexicon Web site. In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in a federal court in Manhattan, Rowling claimed the print version of the Lexicon would improperly interfere with her plans to write her own definitive Harry Potter encyclopedia, one that would include new material not in the novels. “I cannot, therefore, approve of ‘companion books’ or ‘encyclopedias’ that seek to pre-empt my definitive Potter reference book for their authors’ own personal gain,” Rowling said in a statement, released by Warner Bros. Jeff Glor talks to Michael Wallis about “David Crockett,” his biography of the great American hero. Jeff Glor: What inspired you to write the book? Michael Wallis: Like other historical figures I have written about (i.e. Pretty Boy Floyd and Billy the Kid, to name but two), David Crockett (he never signed his name Davy) is a character shrouded in myth, half-truths and legend. The authentic story of this frontiersman reads much better than most of the other versions, including the Crockett portrayed by Fess Parker for Walt Disney in the ’50s. JG: What surprised you the most during the writing process? MW: Many things surprised me while researching and writing this biography. For example, although Crockett had very little formal education, I discovered he read Ovid’s Metamorphoses translated into English, the Bard, and the King James Bible. (CBS/AP) ACCRA, Ghana – An American couple, who used their popular blog to chronicle their journey to adopt four children from Ghana, was detained by Ghanaian authorities and forced to spend a night in detention as they tried to take the children back to the U.S., according to officials. Sol and Christine Moghadam from Irvine, Calif., were traveling with their two biological children as well as the four adopted siblings, who are originally from the Ghanaian city of Kumasi. They were stopped Friday at Kotoka International Airport, after the government received a phone call from an anonymous tipster who accused them of child trafficking, according to a statement posted on the website of AdoptTogether, an advocacy group that produced a video of the couple’s adoption process. However, a source close to the family refutes this account, saying the family was not at the airport or even en route when they were detained. Instead, the source says, the family was in a taxi on their way to lunch when they were stopped by an unmarked police car. According to the source, a policeman escorted the family back to their hotel where they showed copies of their adoption documents. The White House quickly congratulated the president-elect and pledged to work with him “on the basis of mutual respect.” It took a moment for word of the victory to sink in, then the crowd roared. They weren’t all supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, or its candidate, Mohammed Morsi.
