Harsh sunlight (Japanese: 日差しが強い intense sunlight) is a type of weather introduced in battle in Generation II. It was introduced in the overworld in Generation III.

It will last for five turns if created using Drought (Generation VI onwards) or Sunny Day, or eight if created by a Pokémon holding a Heat Rock. If created using Drought (prior to Generation VI) or encountered in the overworld, it will last until replaced.

There is also a variation of harsh sunlight called extremely harsh sunlight (Japanese: 日差しがとても強い very intense sunlight). Extremely harsh sunlight can be encountered in the overworld or created using Desolate Land; if the latter, it lasts until the summoner is removed from the field (and no other Pokémon with Desolate Land remain on the field), the summoner is rotated out in a Rotation Battle, the summoner has Desolate Land suppressed or replaced, or heavy rain or strong winds are created by Primordial Sea or Delta Stream respectively.

Increases the power of Fire-type moves by 50%.

Decreases the power of Water-type moves by 50%.

Allows Solar Beam and Solar Blade to be used instantly.

From Generation V onward, causes Growth to raise Attack and Special Attack two stages each.

Activates the following Abilities: Chlorophyll, Dry Skin, Flower Gift, Forecast, Leaf Guard, Solar Power.

Causes Forecast to change Castform to its Sunny Form.

In Generation V onward, causes Flower Gift to change Cherrim to its Sunshine Form.

In Generation IV, changes Cherrim to its Sunshine Form.

Guarantees Harvest will restore a held Berry.

Changes Weather Ball to a Fire-type move and doubles its power.

Prevents Pokémon from becoming frozen.

Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover ⅔ of max HP (twice the normal amount in Generation II).

Lowers accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50%.

Causes Water-type damaging moves to fail if used.

If a Pokémon attempts to use Natural Gift while holding a Berry that makes the move Water-type, the Berry is not consumed.

If a frozen Pokémon attempts to use Scald or Steam Eruption, it will still thaw itself before the move fails.

Causes the moves Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Sandstorm, and Hail to fail if used. This cannot be subverted even with Cloud Nine or Air Lock.

If a Pokémon affected by Powder uses Sunny Day, it will take damage from Powder.

Causes the Abilities Drought, Drizzle, Sand Stream, and Snow Warning to fail. This cannot be subverted even with Cloud Nine or Air Lock.

Variations

Harsh sunlight

The screen brightens and dims alternately. The screen may also turn a shade of orange that flows while dark spots ride across.

The horizon turns orange and yellow. The screen turns to bright, daytime appearance, regardless of actual time, with the upper portion of it becoming especially bright. Pillars of light randomly appear.

Cartoon Network yesterday announced that the 10th Pokémon movie, The Rise of Darkrai, will air on the network 7 p.m. EST Feb. 24. The host mentioned that the TV premiere will come “months before it plays in theaters,” but no further details were provided.

Cartoon Network aired DP050, DP051 and DP052 and a preview for The Rise of Darkrai yesterday in the United States.

Pokeani has posted a tentative title for the Nov. 27 episode of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl — Cresselia vs. Darkrai! (クレセリアVSダークライ！), DP104.

Darkrai was the featured Pokémon in Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, the 10th Pokémon movie. This will be Cresselia’s first anime appearance.

‘Together2008’ to debut May 15

The opening to the Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl anime series will change to Together2008 on May 15 when DP079 airs, according to TV Tokyo’s Web site. Like the current opening, Together, the new version will be sung by Fumie Akiyoshi.

It is not known how much, if any, the song’s accompanying animation will change.

The other version of the song is Together2007, which was the opening theme to Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai.

Darkrai movie not coming to U.S. theaters

Pokemon.com’s mailbag section has responded to fan speculation about the possibility of a theatrical release of the 10th Pokémon movie. The mailbag confirms that The Rise of Darkrai will be released straight to DVD some time after its Feb. 24 premiere on Cartoon Network.

Fans began to speculate about the possibility of a theatrical release following a comment at the end of Cartoon Network’s special airing of three Diamond and Pearl episodes on Friday that the movie would be on Cartoon Network “months before” coming to theaters, but today’s news dispelled any such rumors.

Media Factory has announced that DP071 and DP072, Pokémon Ranger! The Wave-Guiding Riolu!!, which aired March 20 in Japan as a one-hour special, will be released on Region 2 DVD June 20.

The DVD will have a product number of ZMBS-976 and will sell for 2,500 yen.

The last Pokémon Ranger special, AG171, Pokémon Ranger! Deoxys Crisis!!, was also released on DVD after it aired on Japanese television.

Ten new Pokémon Dolls available in the Dream World

Today several new aspects of the Pokémon Dream World became available. A new area became accessible, new Décor became purchasable, and a new piece of Décor became available via promotion.

The Dream World area Icy Cave became accessible today. It contains many Ice-type Pokémon. It contains many items not found in any other area including the Berries to obtain the Décor released when the Pokémon Global Link reopened; Leppa, Durin, Belue, and Watmel Berries.

Pikachu Doll

To celebrate the opening of the new Japanese Pokémon Global Link, a Pikachu Doll is being given away to Japanese players via password. The password is 「リニューアル 」 renewal. This event began 2 p.m. June 22, 2012 and ends Sept. 25, 2012 at 3:59 p.m., Japan Standard Time.

Ten new Pokémon Dolls became purchasable by default: Bulbasaur, Psyduck, Poliwhirl, Slowpoke, Magikarp, Pelipper, Buizel, Mantyke, Tympole, and موقع العاب مضغوطة [giochi per giocare adesso pokemonpets] Ducklett. Like all Pokémon Dolls, they can be found in the Pokémon Doll Catalogue. All cost 50 of one type of Berry; unlike the Décor released when the Pokémon Global Link reopened, all of the dolls can be purchased with previously available Berries.

The official Japanese Pokémon website has revealed two new Pokémon Doll Catalogue Décor that will be given away to Japanese players via password; the Reshiram Doll and Zekrom Doll. This password will be given out through an email to members of the Pokémon Daisuki Club.

This event will be available from July 20, 2012.
