Romelu Lukaku has this week rejected a big-money new deal with Everton, despite reports suggesting it was almost agreed.

He told the Daily Mail a lack of ambition and opportunities to win silverware at Goodison Park coud see him leave in the summer.

And Ronald Koeman has admitted he is not happy with the striker’s comments and has since spoken with the Belgium star.

However, he has also claimed there is still the possibility that Lukaku Real Madrid fodboldtrøjer could sign a new contract as negotiations are ongoing.

“First of all the deal wasn’t agreed. 99.9 per cent is not 100 per cent and they are still trying to get the contract over the line,” Koeman said.

“And that’s what I know from the board of the club.

“Of course I am not happy about that interview [with the Daily Mail] because if Everton is not a club with a lot of ambition then I wouldn’t be the manager.

“The second is, and I spoke with Rom this morning, I know it’s difficult but if you are a player prepare yourself to play good, to score goals.

“We know he is one of the best, and the rest needs to be done by the manager and the board.

“First I speak with the player, then I will speak to the board and see what happens.”

And despite the uncertainty surrounding Monaco fodboldtrøjer Lukaku’s future, Koeman has admitted he is not overly concerned.

The Belgian is under contract until June 2019, and the Everton boss expects him to honour it.

“I’m not so afraid about the situation because the player has two more years of his contract,” Koeman added.

“Everyone knows anything can happen in football but you have to respect your contract.”

Lukaku has been in great form for the Toffees this season, scoring 19 Premier League goals.
