Chelsea’s madcap month of trying to sign any striker who’s name they pull out of a hat looks set to continue, despite reports that a deal has been struck to bring Roma frontman Edin Dzeko to Stamford Bridge.

The Bosnian forward, who spent five seasons in the Premier League with Manchester City, between 2010-2015, could become a Blue before the transfer window closes on Wednesday, but that hasn’t stopped reports linking other strikers with Antonio Conte’s Premier League champions.

And the latest name on the Italian maglia Barcellona bambini (or Roman Abramovich's) shopping list is none other than Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman has been reduced to a role on the bench for much of the current campaign, following the £52 million summer arrival of compatriot Alexandre Lacazette.

In addition to this, Arsene Wenger is looking to add Borussia Dortmund goal machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to his squad in the coming days, which would reduce Giroud’s chances even further.

The former Montpellier man has been linked with moves to West Ham and Everton since last summer but now it appears Chelsea are also monitoring the France international.

The Blues wouldn’t be looking at a permanent deal for Giroud, however, with Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio claiming that a loan deal until the end of the season would be the club’s preferred option, although Giroud himself is apparently unconvinced by such a deal.

Before Giroud’s name cropped up, Chelsea had also been linked with moves for Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch, although neither seem to have materialised.

Antonio Conte’s men have struggled since the maglia Monaco bambini turn of the year, winning just two of their seven outings since calendars changed to 2018, one of which needed penalties as the Blues advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Championship side Norwich City.

It appears that, with a misfiring Alvaro Morata and an unreliable Michy Batshuayi as his striking options at the moment, Antonio Conte could do with whatever extra help he can get to ensure a successful second half of the season for the champions.
