Pep Guardiola was unsurprisingly delighted to hear about 17-year-old Phil Foden’s two goals in this afternoon’s u17 World Cup final in Calcutta.
The City boss has sung the young midfielder’s praises several times over the last few months amid rumours that the teenager will be named in the first team squad soon.
And he'll have Maglia Manchester united done his chances absolutely no harm after being named Player Of The Tournament, today, following his enthralling two goal display in England’s historic comeback victory over Spain in which they came from 2-0 down to win 5-2.
City were playing West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns as the final was also being played and Guardiola was informed of Foden’s heroics during his post-match interview and seemed understandably delighted with the midfield prodigy.
Foden put England ahead in the second half before putting the icing on the cake with the fifth goal in injury time to secure a monumental victory for the Young Lions, only four months Maglia Italia after the U20s team won their own World Cup in South Korea.
And it wasn’t just Pep who was impressed with Foden, with social media erupting over the 17-year-old’s performances over the course of the tournament.
