(CBS/AP) NEW YORK – New York City police are investigating the death of a stagehand on the Broadway musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

Police say they responded to a report of a 29-year-old male in cardiac arrest just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

According to the New York Times, police say the man suffered a drug overdose backstage.

Two announcements were made telling audience members the show would be delayed, first at 8:20 p.m. and again at 8:50, the Times reports. At about 9 p.m. the show’s stars, Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette, https://www.king789.xyz stepped out onto the stage and apologized to audience members for not being able to perform.

“The two of them said they had mulled it over whether to go on with the show,” one audience member told the paper. “They apologized to everyone, but said it wouldn’t be fair to us because they would not have been able to give a good performance.”

Wednesday night would have been the Broadway revival’s 100th performance. Larroquette won a Tony Award earlier this month for his performance in the show.
