3 years agoFirmino suffered an eye injury in the 2-1 Premier League win over Tottenham on Saturday following a collision with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp waited until today before deciding if the Brazil international was okay to start.

But when the team-sheets were released earlier this evening, Firmino could only take up a place among the substitutes.

BT Sport pundit and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was confused as to why Firmino fotbollströjor barn was fit for the bench but not able to start.

And he jokingly claimed Klopp just wanted his striker to be on the bench to watch the game from close range.

“Yeah it’s a weird one,” Ferdinand said.

“He just wants him to watch the game maybe from close quarters.

“But it was a weird injury. These things happen in football, I’m sure he will not blame anyone.”

Daniel Sturridge was the man tasked with stepping into Firmino’s shoes.

It is remarkably Sturridge’s first start in the Champions League for Liverpool, despite joining the club back in 2013.

The England international has had his injury problems at Anfield but has been named in every squad so far this season.

And Ferdinand says it is a great opportunity for the 29-year-old to show his manager he is ready for a regular spot.

“Today it’s a great opportunity for Sturridge to billiga fotboll tröjor be able to put a marker down and say to the manager ‘yes, I am ready to be a part of this squad,” Ferdinand said.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson came into the starting XI in place of Naby Keita, who dropped to the bench.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker will make his Champions League debut for the Reds after joining from Roma in the summer.

Fabinho could make his debut after joining from Monaco in the summer.
