Manchester United player Gary Neville has announced that he is to retire from football at the age of thirty five. Veteran defender Neville has mad 602 appearances for the club he has always supported and played for.

Neville began his career with United and made his first team debut in 1992, he remained with them throughout his playing career, and he was United’s second longest serving player after Ryan Giggs

After winning the FA Youth Cup in 1992 he became a regular in the first team and became the club captain in 2005, after the departure of Roy Keane, a responsibility he held for five years as he enjoyed one of the most successful periods in United’s history.

He was regarded by many as the best right back in a generation, an accolade that was also recognised by the national team as he made 85 appearances for England, under five different managers. He was highly thought of by his manager Alex Ferguson, and he formed part of a youthful team which included the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes and his brother Phil Neville, which went on to dominate English football during the 1990’s

During the last two seasons his appearances have been less frequent as the competition for his place increased with the emergence of younger players. In September 2010 he relinquished the role of club captain in favour of a more regular first team player.

Gary Neville made his last first team appearance for the club against West Bromwich Albion on the 1st January 2011 before announcing his retirement front the game on 2nd February, after nearly twenty years as a professional player.
