(CBS/AP) NEW YORK – Singer Gavin DeGraw is recovering in a New York City hospital after being assaulted early Monday morning.

Police say the 34-year-old suffered a broken nose and a cut to his face after he was beaten up by “unknown male attackers” in the city’s East Village neighborhood.

The New York Post that DeGraw was attacked by a “pack of thugs” around 4:30 a.m., 고양출장업소 after he had been out with friends. The singer was then hit by a taxi as he stumbled away. Police sources told the paper that the attack did not appear to be a robbery.

A statement sent out by his spokesman Monday night says he was taken to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital by ambulance and is still hospitalized under observation.

DeGraw, whose hits include “I Don’t Wanna Be” and “Chariot,” has been forced to cancel a planned concert Tuesday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., according to the Associated Press. He has been on tour this summer with Maroon 5 and Train.

His new album, “Sweeter,” is due out in September.
