(CBS) AFI Fest 2011 runs from Nov. 3 to Nov. 10 and the film to open it will be Clint Eastwood’s latest, “J. Edgar.” The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the feared FBI director and features Judi Dench, Naomi Watts and Armie Hammer.

The screenplay for “J. Edgar” is by Dustin Lance Black, who won the Academy Award for best original screenplay for “Milk,” Gus Van Sant’s biopic of Harvey Milk. Eastwood has won the best director Oscar twice, for “Million Dollar Baby” and “Unforgiven.”

Eastwood’s last two films as director, “Hereafter” and “Invictus,” did not fare well at the box office, grossing around $32 million and $37 million in their initial domestic runs, according to Box Office Mojo.
