This card was released in the Call of Legends expansion as both a Rare Holofoil card, with artwork by Ryo Ueda, and a Shiny Rare Holofoil card, with artwork by Yuri Umemura. The Rare Holofoil print was created for the Call of Legends expansion, with an exclusive Non Holo print included in the Retort Theme Deck. In Japan, starting on July 27, 2010, those who bought any LEGEND series booster pack were entered into a drawing to win one of five thousand sets of the Shiny Rare Holofoil print of Groudon and five other promotional cards. The Rare Holofoil print was later included in the Black & White Knock Out Collection.

In Japan, this print was available to those who purchased a booster box of the Black & White Collections at Gym Challenge. It was later included in the English Next Destinies expansion with different artwork by 5ban Graphics as an Ultra-Rare Secret card, originating from the Psycho Drive expansion in Japan. An exclusive Cracked Ice Holofoil version of the Black & White print was included in the Next Destinies Stage 1 Blisters released alongside the expansion. The original print was later reprinted in Japan as part of the Master Deck Build Box EX, released on September 14, 2012.
